Who They Are
Grief Australia is a counselling and support organisation dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate grief and trauma. Their work relies heavily on creating safe, private environments where sensitive conversations can take place with complete confidentiality.
Over the past few years their services expanded, the team began planning a new office space in Melbourne that could better support both their clients and internal team.
The Challenge
The team needed to introduce multiple private counselling rooms without disrupting their day-to-day operations. Traditional construction was considered, but the potential impact on staff, timelines, and the overall complexity presented significant challenges.
Based on similar projects, a conventional build would likely involve 3+ months for planning and permits, followed by 6+ months of construction, alongside ongoing disruption within the workspace.
Grief Australia also needed to consider long-term implications, including the ability to modify the space as the team continues to evolve, and “Make Good” requirements at the end of their lease -often resulting in costly removal of fixed construction and unnecessary material waste.
The Solution
LaunchPOD Design delivered a Cubes+ modular office fit-out solution that allowed fully functional counselling rooms to be integrated within the existing office environment – without the need for traditional construction or trades.
The process was carefully managed to minimise disruption. While permits were being processed, manufacturing progressed in parallel, significantly reducing overall project timelines.
Installation was completed in 2 days, allowing the organisation to continue operating throughout the process.
In fact, staff left an open workspace on Friday and returned on Monday to a fully completed set of private offices and counselling rooms, ready for immediate use.
"Another stand out to us was the ability to create fully functional rooms within our space, without long timelines or major disruption. "

A Word from Grief Australia
“From the outset, we were looking for a solution that could deliver privacy without the complexity and disruption of traditional construction. In previous projects, standard office builds often fell short in delivering the level of acoustic privacy essential for counselling services.
"Any future relocation with the cubes model offered us the potential to take that investment with us rather than write off what is a considerable investment for us”

The Results
The completed space now provides Grief Australia with a series of dedicated counselling rooms that support their core service offering, without compromising on privacy, comfort, or design.
Compared to a traditional construction approach, the project was delivered in a significantly shorter timeframe and at a substantially lower cost. More importantly, the installation process had minimal impact on the workplace, with no prolonged downtime or disruption to the team.
The modular nature of the solution also ensures that the organisation remains future-ready. As their needs evolve, the rooms can be reconfigured, relocated, or repurposed, offering a level of flexibility that traditional construction simply cannot match – that’s Workspace Intelligence.
Project Summary
This project involved the delivery of four large custom acoustic rooms and two integrated security door systems within an open-plan office in Melbourne. The solution was designed specifically for counselling and therapy use, with a strong focus on soundproofing, comfort, and adaptability.
From initial engagement through to final installation and compliance, the full project was completed in approximately 10 to 11 weeks, with on-site installation taking just two days. The result is a modular and flexible workspace that aligns with both the operational and long-term strategic needs of Grief Australia.
